This is a full-time permanent Accountant role based in Sydney for one of our clients. The position’s main purpose is to support the finance team in delivering timely and accurate financial information through day-to-day accounting operations, reconciliations, reporting, and statutory compliance. You will be responsible for a range of accounting tasks including processing transactions, assisting with month-end and year-end activities, preparing BAS and GST returns, and providing support on financial analysis. This role is ideal for candidates with 1–2 years of accounting experience who are looking to develop their technical skills and progress their career in a professional and supportive environment.

Task & responsibilities

• Prepare and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger 
• Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations 
• Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports 
• Process and lodge BAS, GST, payroll tax, and other statutory returns 
• Use accounting software (Xero or MYOB) and advanced Excel for reporting 
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes Provide basic financial analysis and ad-hoc reports to management 
• Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as required 
• Assist the Senior Accountant with other accounting tasks

Qualification & experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or related field (or equivalent) 
• 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience (Australian experience highly regarded) 
• Solid knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and tax compliance 
• Proficiency in Xero/MYOB and strong Excel skills 
• High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to meet deadlines 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
• CPA or CA Australia membership (or currently studying towards) will be highly regarded
