Basic Physician Trainee Year 1 (BPT1 / PGY 3+)

12 Months Fixed Term, Full Time position commencing 2nd February 2026

We are inviting Doctors to continue their training with Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2026. Our Basic Physicians Training Year 1 (BPT1) positions deliver an extensive array of education, support, training and professional development.

The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community-based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world-renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

Your Opportunity:

RMH can assist you in deciding on your future pathway and have a strong commitment to supporting you through all training requirements and exam preparation. The large number of rotations on offer will allow you to concentrate on your areas of interest while further developing as a junior doctor and honing your clinical skills.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is part of the Greater Western Basic Physician Training Consortium (GWC). The objectives of the GWC are to improve, and make more equitable, the standard of Basic Physician Training across all of its member health services.

RMH trainees may be asked to rotate to an external partner site in BPT1. These rotations provide an experience unique to rural health services which you would not receive by remaining at RMH for the entirety of your training. It is an expectation and condition of applying to BPT1 at RMH that you undertake a rural rotation if allocated.

All positions will be by direct appointment, prior to the PMCV match.
