This position is Full-Time (fixed-term Apprenticeship). With ongoing employment potential.
2nd or 3rd Year Auto Electrical Apprentice
The duties and responsibilities will vary according to the current needs of the Business, however the main fields that the position holder will be involved in are:
Learning Trade Skills
You are employed to learn and pass your training it is critical that you devote your own time and efforts to successfully passing your course work, assignments, exams and other assessments to a high level.
You are expected to achieve your qualification as soon as reasonably practical.
Learn as much as you can from your experienced co-workers and instructors, as your ongoing successful employment is conditional upon you passing your training and achieving your qualification.
Assist Trade Qualified Electrical Technicians
Perform electrical trades installation, maintenance and servicing of plant and equipment, reducing equipment downtime.
Fault finding, testing and general equipment inspections to ensure all equipment is in good working order;
Correct disposal of waste to comply with the Environmental Protection Act and company policy and procedures;
Perform basic mechanical repairs and alterations;
Assisting all co-workers as required by management;
Ensure all work performed meets the requirements of the Trade Authority AUR30312 and AUR40612 standards.
Assist management ensure the workshop and mobile workshop is maintained in a professional clean, tidy and organised state to ensure safety and work flow;
Communicate with management and inform on any plant and equipment (company or client) deficiencies weather electrical or other to ensure safety;
Using test equipment to locate electrical and electronic malfunctions;
Install, maintain, replace, fault finding, dismantling and removing electrical and electronic assemblies and components;
Connecting power-operated vehicle equipment and accessories to power supply;
Adjusting engine control systems and timing;
Testing and replacing defective alternators, generators, voltage regulators and starter motors
Installing, repairing and replacing electrical wiring and components;
Assisting with client relationship management and meeting customer requirements in a timely professional manner;
Assist with ordering parts and tools to ensure quality timely repairs;
Working off-site as required;
Correct disposal of workshop waste to comply with the Environmental Protection Act and company policy and procedures;
Timely, accurate completion of documentation and paperwork;
Co-ordinate with co-workers to schedule use of resources and assistance as needed.
Assist with the trade skills training and development of Trainees and Apprentices with less experience.
Communicate with management and provide specialist advise on plant life / end life.
Trades Assisting and Labourer duties
Assist other team members and trades in tasks you are capable and trained to perform.
Other
Work hands-on in other roles within the business in peak trade times and during staff shortages.
Perform other duties as requested by your Supervisor from time to time.
Be willing to keep technical skills current through attending seminars and training as required by management.
REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION
Essential Skills, Abilities and Experience
Committed to undertaking studies to achieve a Trade qualification;
General interest in making and repairing things;
Construction industry White or Blue card (willing to do online ASAP);
Current valid C-class manual driver’s license (or commitment to obtain as soon as legally possible);
Ability to work in Australia legally without any restrictions;
Ability to work in a workshop environment;
Able to pass a pre-employment medical and be physically fit and healthy to perform the work (refer to ‘Essential Physical and Mental Requirements for this Position’ below);
High commitment to WH&S practices and focus on eliminating and minimising hazards;
Sound administrative skills to ensure correct documentation is supplied to administration in an accurate and timely manner;
Basic reading and comprehension skills (to complete on-line course work);
Basic computer skills like Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) to complete Trade Training course work;
Access to a Computer and Smartphone (to complete course work and online assessments);
Construction industry White or Blue card;
Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing to ensure workplace health and safety;
Willingness to undertake any job-related training your Manager deems appropriate.
Willingness to attend training and work out of town (i.e. driving to Brisbane and staying away for a few days/ weeks for Trade Training Blocks when needed)
Preferred (nice to have) Skills, Abilities and Experience
General mechanical ability;
Current advanced First Aid and CPR certification;
Any other tickets (ie. dogman, crane, bobcat, roller excavator, Elevated Work Platform, etc)
Willingness to achieve a HR (heavy rigid) truck license.
Physical Requirements for the job
Ability to pass Client work Medical Examinations;
Ability to easily lift 15 kilograms safely without assistance;
Ability to perform regular bending, stretching, twisting whilst carrying 15 kilograms;
Working in confined or limited space;
Working in heat and outside all day;
Ability to stand all day;
Ability to move materials and operate equipment safely without injury to yourself or others.
Willingness to undertake a drug and alcohol test at any time during your employment (to ensure safety).
Ability and willingness to comply with government Health Directives/ Mandates (ie. Covid-19 vaccinations, mask wearing if required by law).
Mental Requirements for the job

Ability to work alone with minimal supervision;

Remuneration will be the Award rate.
