The Fraud Fusion Taskforce and Integrity Capability Division drives the Agency’s integrity response and capability uplift as well as the coordination of the whole-of-government multi-agency Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT).
The Fraud Investigations Branch (the Branch) investigates and responds to internal and external fraud against the NDIS. Our Branch also represents the operational part of the Fraud Fusion Taskforce (FFT).
The Branch has several APS5 Investigator opportunities available in the Serious and Complex Non-Compliance and Fraud Investigations Teams of the Fraud Investigations Branch.
Serious and Complex Non-Compliance Team
The Serious and Complex Non-compliance team takes administrative action against serious non-compliant offenders (including providers, participants, and nominees) as an alternate or parallel treatment to criminal prosecution to disrupt fraud against the NDIS.
The Serious and Complex Non-Compliance team gather, analyse and assess information in relation to complex compliance matters, and undertake operational activity to manage identified integrity and fraud risk.
Fraud Investigation Teams
The Fraud Investigation teams are responsible for undertaking general criminal investigations of serious and organised fraud against the NDIS – sometimes will we manage work via a ‘Strikeforce’ that targets and takes out known criminal networks committing fraud, in conjunction with our Fraud Fusion Taskforce partners.
We are also responsible for detecting and responding to allegations of fraud and corruption against the NDIS involving Agency employees, partner staff and contractors.
We use forensic accounting skills to investigate fraud and analyse financial information for use in criminal investigations and legal proceedings.
The key duties of the position include:As an APS6 Fraud Investigator, you will use a Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or its equivalent, to lead and conduct complex and sensitive administrative or criminal investigation activities in accordance with NDIA processes and the Australian Government Investigation Standards.
You will conduct interviews, prepare statements and affidavits, and manage evidential material and confidential information securely. You will assist in preparing cases and briefs of evidence for referral to relevant authorities such as the Australian Federal Police and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. Representing the NDIA in providing testimony in criminal and civil court proceedings will be part of your role. You will analyse information, process data, and produce accurate and informative reports. Your investigative activities will align with NDIA processes and Australian Government Investigation Standards.
You will contribute to enhancing workplace practices and process improvements and assist in executing search warrants, which may involve domestic air travel and extended working hours, including overnight stays.
You will coordinate team workload in line with leadership direction, ensuring operational activities comply with relevant legislation, agency guidelines, and documented processes. Collaborating with team members and internal stakeholders, you will develop specialized knowledge in areas of expertise and work closely with management, operational teams, and external partner agencies to support the strategic and operational needs of the NDIA.
Supporting and contributing to business improvement activities, including developing systems, processes, and practical tools, will be integral to your role. You will coordinate, investigate, and resolve escalated issues, provide administrative support for complex issues, and support the team and other initiatives as directed. Possessing a Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent, or the ability to obtain, is expected for this role.
The NDIS provides funding to eligible people with disability to gain more time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, jobs, or volunteering in their community, and an improved quality of life. The NDIS also connects anyone with disability to services in their community. This includes connections to doctors, community groups, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools, as well as providing information about what support is provided by each state and territory government. The NDIS now supports over 500,000 Australians with disability to access the services and supports they need. This includes supporting approximately 80,000 children with developmental delay, ensuring they receive supports early so that they achieve the best outcomes throughout their lives.
