Location Profile:

The Monash Tech School is a leading hub for STEM education and innovation, located at the heart of the Monash Precinct on Monash University’s Clayton Campus. Since its inception, the Tech School has established itself as a centre of excellence, providing secondary students with hands-on, technology-rich learning experiences that bridge the gap between education and industry.

The Monash Tech School serves a diverse partnership of schools within the City of Monash, including secondary and specialist institutions. In addition to its educational partners, the Tech School collaborates with a wide range of industry, community, and tertiary stakeholders to deliver programs aligned with contemporary STEM priorities and workforce needs.

Monash Tech School is one of ten Tech Schools established across Victoria. It is a funded initiative through the Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division in the Department of Education.

Monash Tech School is administered by John Monash Science School. Its facilities are leased by the Department of Education from Monash University.

Role Overview:

As the Director of the Monash Tech School, you will lead an innovative and future-focused educational hub that delivers cutting-edge STEM programs to secondary students. Collaborating with educational, industry, and government stakeholders, you will ensure the Tech School fosters innovation, creativity, and real-world learning. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of STEM education, empowering students with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in an evolving workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Direction:

● Provide visionary leadership to the Monash Tech School, ensuring alignment with the broader goals of the Department of Education and the Monash Tech School Steering Committee.

● Develop and implement strategic plans to keep the Tech School at the forefront of STEM education innovation. Curriculum and Program Development:

  • Lead the design, delivery, and continual refinement of a cutting-edge programs that integrate STEM fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, smart energy systems, and quantum technologies.
  • Ensure programs complement existing school curricula and provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students of all abilities.

Professional Development for Educators:

● Design and implement professional development initiatives to equip teachers with innovative pedagogical approaches and interdisciplinary STEM teaching skills.

● Facilitate ongoing engagement with educators to ensure programs meet classroom needs and industry relevance.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop relationships with partner schools, industry leaders, government bodies, and community organisations.
  • Act as a key liaison between the Tech School and its diverse stakeholders to foster collaboration and sustainability.

Operational Excellence:

● Oversee all operational aspects of the Tech School, including staff recruitment, training, and performance management.

● Ensure efficient resource allocation, budget management, and governance processes to support the delivery of high-quality programs.

Equity and Inclusion:

● Commit to designing and delivering programs that are inclusive and accessible, addressing the diverse needs of students across partner schools.

● Promote equity in STEM education by actively encouraging participation from underrepresented groups. Industry and Community Integration:

● Build meaningful partnerships with industry and community stakeholders to create real-world learning opportunities and pathways for students.

● Leverage these partnerships to bring contemporary industry insights into program design and delivery. Program Evaluation and Accountability:

● Develop and implement metrics to evaluate the success and impact of Tech School programs.

● Regularly report on program outcomes, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with strategic goals.

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated education leadership capability and experience to support and motivate team(s) to deliver positive student outcomes in all programs offered via Monash Tech School and to collaborate effectively with MTS administrators John Monash Science School and Monash University.

  2. A strong knowledge of STEM education including a contemporary understanding of current developments in STEM and the application of relevant pedagogies in constructing innovative programs.

  3. Experience working with industry, advisory committees and governance structures to achieve strategic and operational objectives, with appropriate levels of consultation and engagement with key stakeholders within Monash University.

  4. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and partnerships, with secondary schools, universities, other tertiary providers, industry and external stakeholders.

  5. Demonstrated strength in financial management and workforce planning, including managing budgets, interpreting financial and business data, achieving key targets and forecasts, and identifying new opportunities to support the strategic goals of Monash Tech School

  6. Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire and educate young people of varying abilities and interest levels to study STEM subjects and to communicate the importance of STEM learning to principals and teachers and the opportunities to integrate them into a traditional school setting.

Individuals with the aptitude, experience, and qualifications to fulfil the specific requirements of this role are encouraged to apply. A background in STEM-related fields at a senior level within education or industry will be highly regarded.
