About the Role- Full time Chef
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to lead kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have a strong culinary background, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining the high food quality standards. It is full-time chef position minimum 38 hours per week for our daily operations at 5 Walkey place, Mckellar ACT 2617. You may be required to work extra hours depending on occasions or bookings as the club restaurant opens 7 days a week from breakfast to dinner.
Benefits
Salary of $70,000 to $80,000 per annum plus superannuation will be paid based on experience and skills to deserving candidate.
Tasks & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities and job duties:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
- Supervise and monitor all stages of food preparation and cooking to maintain consistent dish quality.
- Menu planning as per seasonal and customer demands.
- Plan, prepare, and execute food service for both retail and special events, ensuring timely delivery and presentation.
- Maintain kitchen, food preparation, and storage areas in compliance with strict health, hygiene, and safety standards.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among kitchen staff to support optimal team performance.
- Prepare specialty dishes tailored to customer cultural preferences, dietary needs, and restaurant themes.
- Develop menus and daily specials in partnership with the restaurant manager, incorporating seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
- Ensure kitchen cleanliness and proper organization of equipment in accordance with food safety regulations.
- Monitor and regulate temperature settings of kitchen equipment.
- Accurately estimate food and labour costs to support budget planning and cost control initiatives.
- Accurately portion ingredients and dishes to maintain uniformity in serving sizes, enhancing presentation and meeting customer expectations.
- Uphold high standards of food quality, taste, and visual presentation.
- Manage kitchen budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement cost-saving measures.
- Oversee proper food storage practices to minimize waste and spoilage.
- Order and manage inventory of supplies and ingredients based on kitchen needs.
- Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and training to kitchen staff.
- Recruit, select, and onboard new kitchen team members.
- Guide kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and ensure adherence to cooking procedures.
- Utilize a variety of food preservation methods.
- Stay informed on current product offerings, culinary trends, and market demands.
- Take pride in food presentation, consistently delivering visually appealing and high-quality dishes.
- Engage with regular and new customers to understand preferences, gather feedback, and implement suggestions for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with management to enhance operational efficiency, food quality, and overall kitchen productivity.
Qualifications & experience
About you
The successful candidate will possess:
- Minimum one year work experience as chef.
- Minimum certificate iv in commercial cookery/relevant qualifications
- Supervisory skills
- Confident approach and results driven
- Flexibility with hours and approach
- Good communication and technology skills
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure to deliver timely and quality results.
