The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a proactive and community-minded Library Customer Service & Program Support Officer to join our Libraries and Learning team. Based at Niddrie Library (with potential shifts across branches), this is a rewarding role supporting library users of all ages while helping deliver inclusive and engaging programs—especially for children and youth. If you have a passion for people, enjoy working in a dynamic team environment, and love connecting community with knowledge and culture, this could be the role for you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, customer-focused service across the library network, including responding to enquiries, assisting with borrowing, and supporting technology use.
  • Proactively engage with customers in a self-service environment through floor walking and assistance with equipment like PCs, mobile devices, and library tech.
  • Support the delivery of children’s and youth programs, including story times and school-age activities, under the guidance of the Children and Youth Services Technician.
  • Support the Children and Youth Services Technician with collection maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with basic maintenance of the children's collection and participate in team discussions and meetings.
  • Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive library environment, supporting community use of spaces and responding to a wide range of public needs.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, work at other branches as needed, and ensure smooth daily operations in line with Council procedures.

Skills & Experience

To succeed in this role, you will have excellent customer service skills, sound communication abilities, and a genuine interest in engaging with people of all backgrounds. You’ll be confident using a range of digital devices and library systems and bring strong organisational skills to manage tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ideally, you’ll have experience working in public libraries or similar customer-focused settings, and familiarity with delivering community or educational programs is a plus. A satisfactory completion of secondary education is required, along with relevant compliance checks, including a Working with Children Check, Police Check, and COVID-19 vaccination status.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through our online system and should be in line with the Moonee Valley City Council Application Guide.
