Medical officer - marine sector

Job DescriptionAspen Medical has been engaged by the Australian Border Force (ABF) to provide medical support and accredited training onboard a number of ABF marine vessels. We are seeking General Practitioners with a broad range of skills who can operate in very remote and sometimes difficult conditions. Working within a small team, you will be required to manage a broad range of contingencies and will use your medical training and experience to respond to and treat all types of medical emergencies and issues which may arise during the patrol. This role offers the opportunity to showcase your adaptability and experience across a range of potential medical situations.

As well as providing medical support, our Medical Officers are involved in delivering nationally accredited training to ABF crew. As such, all staff must be willing to obtain appropriate qualifications.

This is not your standard GP role and as such we are seeking candidates who are looking for something a little different. To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

• Demonstrated vocational experience in a remote setting as an independent practitioner – thereby developed capabilities to respond to a broad range of medical, surgical and trauma related conditions
• Current Advanced Life Support certification
• Current Advanced Trauma Management certification (i.e. EMST, ATLS, or equivalent)
• Drug and Alcohol Testing certification or ability to quickly obtain
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification (TAE40116) or willingness to obtain

Candidates MUST be Australian citizens in order to obtain and maintain the Federal Government security clearances required for this position. Applicants who currently hold an AGSVA security clearance are highly regarded.
