The role

As the Policy Officer you will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating legislation and policy in relation to all matters for which the Division is responsible, providing policy advice on these activities as required, contributing to other branch responsibilities including planning, risk management and stakeholder engagement, completing policy projects in accordance with business plans and project briefs to achieve organisational aims and participate in forums, committees and working groups as requested.

Additionally, this role researches and consults effectively with external stakeholders and operational areas to develop policy, analyses issue and proposes policy positions, identifies and make suggestions about continuous process and service improvements, efficiencies and integration within the Directorate, maintains awareness of current and emerging issues relevant to the resource sector.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

  • Demonstrated experience producing well written fit for purpose documents including reports, briefing papers and policy documents.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills and experience applying judgment developing, implementing and objectively evaluating legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating policy advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
