Details: We are looking for a highly motivated individual to lead therapeutic and trauma-informed practices at Bimberi Youth Justice Centre. The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people with complex needs and their families, and a proven ability to engage effectively with First Nations and culturally diverse communities using culturally sensitive approaches. Strong leadership, advocacy, and communication skills are essential.

Key responsibilities include providing advice and input to services at Bimberi to ensure they are therapeutically focused and trauma-informed, reviewing and evaluating Bimberi’s Behaviour Management Framework, and supporting staff through leadership, training and mentoring. The successful candidate will also collaborate with government, and non-government agencies to improve outcomes for clients within a statutory framework.

Bimberi Youth Justice Centre (Bimberi) is a human rights compliant youth detention facility. The Centre provides safe and secure accommodation for young people between the ages of 12 and 21 years, who are remanded in custody or sentenced by the ACT Children's or Supreme Courts.
This position involves direct supervision of staff and is based at Bimberi.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

Essential experience and requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent) in human services, allied health, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in human services fields.
  • This position does require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.

Highly desirable qualifications and experience:
* A driver’s license is desirable.
* This position does require a First Aid Certificate, or ability to undertake training.
