About our Team
The Directorate of Enterprise Security Assessments (DESA) supports strategic security assessments within the Defence enterprise. The Directorate leverages intelligence driven methodology to provide tailored security threat and vulnerability advice to risk stewards and decision makers.

In addition to providing advice to select National Defence Strategy and AUKUS Pillar One priorities, the Directorate is a stakeholder in a number of Defence and National Security programs with functions including:

  • Threat advice for Defence submissions to the Treasury lead Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB);
  • Intelligence support functions to assessing Foreign Work Authorisations (FWA) in accordance with Safeguarding Australia’s Military Secrets (SAMS) legislation;
  • Foreign Ownership, Control and Influence (FOCI) assessment input to support Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) membership decisions.

The core mission of the Directorate of Security and Counterintelligence (DSCI) is to provide timely security intelligence and threat advice, and to facilitate threat information and reporting to support risk-based security decision-making.

The DSCI is comprised of two teams: Counterintelligence (CI) and Threat Intelligence (TI). DSCI also manages the Defence Insider Threat Program, part of the counterintelligence team, that deters, detects, and mitigates insider threats to Defence.

Senior Analysts in both DESA and DSCI will additionally be expected to supervise intelligence service delivery and mentor analysts across both the directorates.
