RPS is seeking a highly motivated Senior or Principal Hydrologist to join our established surface and groundwater hydrology team in Subiaco. With a specialisation in urban water management and a strong foundation across broader hydrological disciplines, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary group of experts in environment, earth and marine sciences within our Oceans and Environment division.
We are proud to deliver technical services to some of Perth’s largest residential developments and support urban growth in the south-west through our Margaret River office. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects that directly contribute to more resilient and sustainable communities across Western Australia.
Your Role
As a Senior / Principal Hydrologist, you will bring your expertise and leadership to a diverse and impactful project portfolio.
You Will
Prepare technical reports to support regulatory approvals, including district and local water management strategies and urban water management plans.Conduct surface water investigations, flood studies, drainage modelling and related reporting.Collaborate with clients and project teams, including civil engineers, planners, and landscape architects.Engage with regulatory authorities such as local governments and DWER to navigate and negotiate water planning approvals.Analyse, interpret and present hydrological and hydrogeological data from field and desktop sources.Lead or support environmental field investigations, including water sampling, flow monitoring, drilling supervision, infiltration testing and more.
About You
You are a degree-qualified professional in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology or Civil Engineering, with:
Between 7 and 15+ years of experience, with a strong focus on urban water management.Proven experience preparing water management strategies and environmental reports across multiple scales.A sound understanding of stormwater drainage design and flood mitigation planning.Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling capabilities – experience with XPSWMM or InfoWorks ICM is highly regarded.Familiarity with Australian Rainfall and Runoff (ARR 2019) and relevant regulatory frameworks.Experience in fieldwork (e.g. water quality monitoring, sampling) is desirable.GIS capability (ArcGIS, Global Mapper, or QGIS) is advantageous.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.A self-driven mindset, with the ability to manage priorities, work independently, and collaborate within a team environment.
