The Role
We have an exciting temporary, full-time position available to join our Marine team in the Maritime faculty at TAFE Queensland’s Cairns Campus.
As a TAFE Teacher in Marine, you have the opportunity to influence the careers of future industry persons by sharing your extensive industry knowledge to students in a classroom or other educational setting.
This position reports to the Business Manager.
Salary
The salary range for a TAFE Teacher is $89,799 - $112,392 (gross) per annum, depending on educational qualifications held and teaching experience.

Mandatory Requirements
- Current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided;
- Current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs the training and assessment provided;
- Evidence of undertaking professional development in the fields of the knowledge and practice of vocational training, learning and assessment including competency-based training and assessment;
Vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed:
- MAR20321 - Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)
- Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
Additionally, to become a TAFE Teacher, you must hold one of the following training and assessment credentials:
- TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor; or
- TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; or
- TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; plus: TAELLN411 or its successor or
- TAELLN401A; and
- TAEASS502 or its successor or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B; or
- A credential issued by a higher education provider which would enable the individual to satisfy the academic requirements for registration as a secondary school teacher and one (1) of the following credentials: TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set or its successor, or
- TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or its successor; or
- TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set; or
- A diploma or higher-level qualification in adult or vocational education
Note: Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview.
Highly Desirable
Candidates who possess the following will be highly regarded:
- High level of digital literacy skills across various platforms (online Learning Management Systems)

- Possess skills and knowledge of national training packages and accredited courses to support competency development and the ability to respond positively to industry and individual needs.
- Demonstrate capacity for best practice in the management of teaching and learning activities including the development of industry relevant, flexible, innovative, technology enhanced learning options, training products and solutions.
- Demonstrate capacity for initiative, self-management, teamwork and sustainable practice, with the ability to accept, promote and manage change through the use of well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrate commitment to self-development with the focus on maintaining skills contemporary industry and teaching practices and the use of educational technologies and Learning Management Systems to support learning.
- Possess sound knowledge of safe, equitable and anti-discriminatory work practices and demonstrate ability to be flexible, inclusive, responsive and deliver quality student experience.
