About the job

The Technical Trainer is responsible for identifying, developing, delivering, and evaluating technical and operational training programs and assessments for SA Water employees and contractors. The primary goal is to ensure that all employees possess the necessary skills and competencies to perform their roles to the required performance, safety, and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Identify and assess technical and operational training needs and develop or update relevant training materials.
  • Conduct Training Needs Analysis to identify skill gaps and ensure alignment with the Operational Technical Training Framework.
  • Develop training content for various platforms, including online, videos, classroom, and on-the-job.
  • Assist in creating new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials to meet performance standards and support new equipment or job methods in coordination with SMEs.
  • Deliver induction programs, on-the-job training, and ongoing assessments for new and existing employees.
  • Implement and manage training plans to maintain employee competence and address technical skill gaps across operational areas.
  • Continuously evaluate, update, and improve training programs to reflect business needs, industry standards, and safety protocols.
  • Support the integration of new technologies and innovations into training delivery.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping of training and maintain the skills matrix in line with organisational needs.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and leaders to align training with business objectives and report on training requirements.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Solid experience and understanding of industry practices, preferably within the water services or construction industries.
  • A commitment to customer service, safety, and environmental standards.
  • A focus on continuous improvement, fostering collaboration, and supporting ongoing learning.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products.
  • A Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or an Enterprise Trainer and Assessor Skill Set, or relevant work experience.
  • The ability to train, assess, and develop others, enhancing team capability.
  • Experience in trade-based or construction roles, with relevant licenses (car, truck, or machinery licenses) and any required tickets is desirable.
  • Familiarity with high-risk activities such as working at heights, confined spaces, and using breathing apparatus (BA) is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to high-risk work environments.

Position details and requirements

This role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the option to be based in Adelaide or a regional SA location (negotiable). A valid driver’s licence is essential, as regular travel is a key aspect of the position. Flexibility in working hours is required, including occasional after-hours work and frequent statewide travel.
